Learning

At Broughton D@TAbase we have devised our own unique method called Flexible Learning. This is where we put the control of learning in your hands to pick the methods that suit your individual needs. Our aim is to provide as much flexibility as possible to enable you to undertake learning at times convenient to you. Adult Learner Support is available to you from our qualified staff when using any of the following learning methods:

Drop-in

The most common form of learning is through flexible sessions, where you can drop-in to the centre any time during the open sessions and work independently asking for help when required or on a one-to-one basis with a tutor or do both.

One-to-one

We provide as much one-to-one help as you need which is an ideal way to learn when building confidence in a new subject area. An appointment can be arranged with a tutor who will give you undivided attention and support during your session.

Workshops

Structured tasters and short courses are provided in new or specific subject areas. These are on set days and times for learners to focus on a particular topic of learning with a tutor and small group of learners. Look out for workshops advertised within the centre and on the members’ newsletter.

Distance

If you are employed, housebound or a carer and have access to a computer with broadband Internet access you can undertake learning online. Distance learning works in a similar way to drop-in sessions, the difference is that the support will be virtual. Tutors can be emailed 24 hours a day, telephoned during support sessions and sent SMS to answer questions and help. Although this is designed to fit around you, we do encourage some face-to-face contact. This method of learning does have pre-requisites.

Peer Learning and Mentoring

Some people learn as much from their peers as from tutors so this is encouraged within the centre. Mentors can be found for learners who feel comfortable with guidance and support from peers.
